Yes, there's lots of podcasts on all kinds of topics, but proportionately few of the Christian podcasts that are not sermons. The Works of John Newton. It doesn't have to be John Newton for everybody--but I think it benefits every pastor to have a certain guy in history that can "mentor" them. My guy is Newton.

2. Christ-Centered Preaching by Bryan Chapell along with Eswine's Preaching in a Post-Modern World. Best resources I've found on preparing a sermon.

3. Biblearc.com Learning how to arc is tremendously helpful in preparing a sermon. It helps me to see the main point and argument of a passage--and to be certain to preach that.

4. Soul food. I don't mean Chicken Soup for the Pastor's Soul, but I've made it a habit to put devotional/soul-stirring type of reading in my rotation. I almost could have written "The Puritans" here. They do this well. You get the idea that these men were stirred by the text that they were proclaiming. Pastors must be intentional about doing things that keep their souls lively.

That's a few. There are many more. I look forward to reading what you come up with.

Re: Seriously? She is a chart topping legend as well and in my opinion is often underscored compared to Carrie, Faith, and Martina. But, when she puts out a song they can easily turn into number one hits and she has some of the most memorable songs in country music I.e "Born to Fly", "Suds in the bucket", "As if", and her most current hit "A Little Bit Stronger". I love Carrie Underwood to death and am a huge fan but she was asked to be a member only after a few years of her career. Sara has been around since the 90's and i think is deserving of the honor to being invited to the opry.

Re: Seriously? I'm sure many other young men looking to enter into, as well as ones currently in ministry share similar struggles with this in some form or fashion. Thanks for articulating this here. It is, as the commenter below said, full of conviction but also of grace. Blessings!

Re: Platform: Great Risk or Great Reward

I loved this for several reasons but to name two: It was full of grace. You can read "warnings" and confuse a pursuit of God and desire to love others through sharing with selfish ambition. Yet, you were clear to share challenges that are well worth our evaluation, whether we eat, drink, write, blog, do to the glory of God. Thanks for the balance here!

Re: Why I’m Going “Back to School”

Well said!

Re: RIP, Nook

Have both Nook and Kindle Fire.Kindle Fire much superior.More content available than Nook.

Re: Superbowl Ads and What They Say about Us

Great point!

Re: Superbowl Ads and What They Say about Us

When a well-timed social media post that took Nabisco maybe 10 minutes to create (in response to the blackout) can win the Super Bowl ad wars, it seems that the era of traditional advertising may be coming to a close.

Re: Superbowl Ads and What They Say about Us

Ha!

Re: Superbowl Ads and What They Say about Us

Agreed, Thad

Re: Superbowl Ads and What They Say about Us

Thanks, James

Re: Superbowl Ads and What They Say about Us

Awesome. I was encouraged by the fact that "Farmer", the "Clydesdale" spot, and the Tide "miracle stain" spot were the top 3 in USA Today's AdMeter; while Calvin Klein, Beck's Sapphire Beer (whose label features a red ruby rather than a blue sapphire, therefore encouraging not only drinking but also irresponsible identification of birthstones!) and GoDaddy were at the bottom. But you are right: until GoDaddy is no longer the #1 domain registrar, they probably won't change their game plan.
Which means that a better domain service ought to step up. After all, Hardee's and Jack in the Box have both pushed the limit recently with sketchy commercials, but they aren't number 1 and 2 in fast food. Why? Because you can get a better hamburger somewhere else. Lesson: companies aren't going to tone down until companies offering a superior product step up.

Re: Superbowl Ads and What They Say about Us

Well said, JP.
